Screen CVs without uploading them anywhere
Most screening tools start with an upload. Shortlane does not have one: the CVs are read and ranked inside your own browser.
Why the upload matters
A CV holds a name, an address, a phone number, a work history and sometimes a photo or a date of birth. When you put a pile of them into an online screening tool, all of that goes to someone else's server. Then the questions start: where is it stored, for how long, who else can read it, which country is the server in, and what happens to it after the role is filled. If the candidates are in the EU, those are GDPR questions, and you are the one who has to answer them.
Shortlane avoids the questions by not taking the files. There is nothing to store, so there is nothing to delete later.
How it works without an upload
- The matching model comes to you. When you open the recruiter page, a small language model is downloaded into your browser, once, and cached there.
- Your files stay on your machine. You paste the job ad and drop in the CVs: PDF, Word, text or images, up to 200 per job. They are read by your browser. Scanned CVs are read with OCR, also on your machine.
- You read a ranked list. Each name lands in Strong, Possible or Needs review, with the line from the CV that matched each requirement next to it, so you can check the reasoning.
Close the tab and nothing is left on any server, because nothing was ever sent to one.
What does reach us
Only what is needed to sell you a licence: the Stripe payment, and a licence token your browser shows when you rank a paid batch. Stripe sees the payment details; we never see a CV, a file name, a score or a candidate. Visits are counted with a cookieless counter. The security page describes the automated test that checks on every build that no CV text leaves the page.
What are the limits?
Shortlane ranks against the ad you wrote, so a vague ad gives a vague ranking. A scanned CV is read with OCR on your machine; that is slower, only the first four pages are read, and a poor scan can lose words, so those CVs land in Needs review for you to open yourself. Your computer does the work, so a big batch is slower on an older laptop.
The result is decision support for a person, not an automated hiring decision. It never rejects anyone on its own and it promises nobody an interview.
What does it cost?
One-off per job, nothing renews: EUR 10 for up to 50 CVs, 15 for 100, 20 for 150, 25 for 200, or EUR 30 for a 30-day pass with unlimited jobs. The built-in sample CVs are free to try. Details on the pricing page; how the ranking itself works is on rank CVs against a job description.
No account, no upload. Paste an ad, drop the CVs, read the list.
